Nudge Contextual Menu
Nudge

Universal

This Contextual Menu "nudges" the Finder to update the information it displays about a file or folder. Use the "Nudge" menu item on any file, folder (or groups of items) if you suspect the Finder hasn't updated its view. This should work for most attribute changes, icon changes, size changes, files that have been saved but don't appear, and so forth. Use the "Touch" menu item to also change the file/folders modification timestamp to the current date and time. Version 1.2 works on both PowerPC and Intel Macs. On Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) and up, you can control-click on the empty space in any Finder window and have the contextual menu act on the containing folder.

Unfortunately, some attribute changes are NOT properly recognized. This includes the "invisible" and "package" attributes. For changes to those attributes, you must quit and restart the Finder.

Version 1.2 (Size: 151506 bytes) is for Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and up, for both PowerPC and Intel.

The older version 1.01 (Size: 145428 bytes) is for Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) and 10.3 (Panther), PowerPC only.

The Nudge Contextual Menu is freeware. However, if you think it was useful to you, you may contribute with a donation. If you are a developer and wish to use the included Contextual Menu Draglet, please e-mail me.

Why is this necessary? The recent versions (Tiger and up) of the Finder are better at recognizing changes to local files and folders but Nudge is still useful for network items. Also, this version can do the equivalent of the Unix "touch" command, changing the item's modification timestamp to the current time, which may be useful in some contexts.
